First Fibreship progress meeting

Six months have elapsed from the kick-off meeting of the FIBRESHIP project in Madrid. The project is going smoothly and the first results and conclusions are coming. The Greek team of the project consortium: DANAOS Corporation, FOINIKAS and ANEK LINES have held in Piraeus the first progress meeting with more than thirty representatives of the entire maritime sector spectra. Four thematic sessions took place getting a comprehensive analysis of the technical progress: TQC1-Shipping market analysis and business analysis, TQC2: materials, components and modeling, TQC3: design and engineering and TQC4: production and lifecycle management.  The most relevant progress was about the market analysis for getting the initial vessel design specifications, the smooth running of the on-going tests for materials characterization, the agreement on the strategy and numerical codes for the fire safety analysis and structural collapse as well as the presentation of the first sea trials on the composite vessel “André Malraux”. Finally, the discussions regarding joining techniques of composite materials and structural vessel blocks, looking for the best production strategy for large-length vessel in composite materials, were the high points discussed among specialists.

The next progress meeting will be held in Barcelona by CIMNE and COMPASSIS around March. It will be the last internal meeting aimed to prepare the first workshop and open day scheduled in June 2018. This paramount event will involve the marine and maritime industries, navies and regulatory bodies in Cambridge managed by FIBRESHIP U.K partners: TWI and Lloyd´s Register.
